The past week

Where to start??

I guess a list of the fab things that we did:

We visited my aunt in Montpellier and the kids had a blast at the beach. And the best thing is that even Bex had a great time (remember: loves the beach but not the water or the sand). Well, he went into the water, jumped some waves and played with the sand ... not a cry. I was sooo proud. Sydoux as usual played and played. I think later on she will live on a beach. We actually went twice to the beach.

We also visited my Mom's cousin and wife and their grandkids. Soo many cool things starting with their fab house. It is soo old and yet completely redone with modern stuff. It rocks. The kids had a blast. We went to pick apricots. Trees and trees laden with ripe, warm apricots. Stuffed my face.

Later we went to get fresh goat cheese. The kids have become addicted to goat cheese. So funny to watch. Bex went to pet a chicken, which ended up being a rooster, a pissed rooster. He pecked at Bex, made him fall on his but and pecked some more. Bex was PISSSSSED something fierce. He was so upset and then he was hurt too. Not a good trip for him.

We visited some very cute villages, all made of old old stone. Tons of cool little shops within the thick walls.

One thing was annoying: because of my diet I'm still not eating any dairy or meats. So it kinda sucks to go shopping. I miss being able to buy all the specialty cheese, the old pates, the awesome sausages.

We were happy to go back to La Barre for two days. We build a fort, played outside and today we drove to Lyon.

We went to my bro's house and the kids played. We could not help but notice that they did not play together as much. Whoooooo knoooows???

Tomorrow we are going to a cousin's birthday party .... Sydoux wanted to know if there was going to be a cake!!! I said yes and then she said: It certainly won't be like the once in Charlotte ....
Thursday I will be having lunch and dinner with friends, and then back to La Barre for a couple of days.

Hard to believe that we will be going home in two weeks. I think the kids will be ready, and so will I.
So far, the first week was the hardest for Sydoux. Bex is just Bex as usual. No change. Though he is speaking much more french then I would have ever thought.

We have been able to talk to Jon daily. Today we even got to talk with skype. Once thing that cracked the kids up was went they called Maesi and Maesi kept looking for us!!!!!

All together we have been having an awesome trip this far. I guess we are about half through.

On our way ....

to Montpellier, to visit my Mom's sister. Looking forward to visit and to show the beach to the kids.

Great few days past at La Barre, kids playing, really cool.

Huge rant on my chest, thanks Jon and Joelie for listening to me.

More later as we are in transit.

After a day or so of travel, we arrived in Lyon. For those who have been following my travel, and know that some have been rather painfull, this one was FAB. Just about no crying, the kids sitting in theirs seats without moving. The airline company on the other hand sucked pretty bad (US AIRWAYS). The food was more than the usual awful. The airline personal was rude. Whatever, we made it safely to the other side.

Mom took the kids to the park while I had a fab nap. I actually had not slept at all on the plane and was rather tired.

This morning I met up with my friend Joelie and two of her kids. It was soo easy to talk, to connect on things that we have in common. It is so interesting how easy it is to reconnect with some people you barely know, and how hard it can be to talk to some that you know better.

Then I had a hair appointment. Nothing drastic, just a nicer bob.

I walked back home, which is one of my favorite things to do in this city. There are beautiful streets, lined with shops on both sides. On top of that, alllllll the stores stuff was on sale 50% or more!!!! Of course I got things: a sweater, some books for the kids, a puzzle and some tea accessories.

After that Bex had an appointment with an Osteopath, which is something similar to a chiropractor. He works on the whole body. I remember how much it helped Bex last year, but to watch Bex cry was really trying. How to explain that the pain will actually make him feel better the next day? I don't know. I don't think I'll take him back. Too hard to watch.

Then we went to visit my brother. His daughters as soooo cute and funny and nice. The kids played and played and played!!! Bex was actually engaging Lucy to play which is something new. Of course the two older girls giggled and laughed. They barely stopped for some dinner and then went right back to playing. Fab. Looks like my Bro's getting a new job, and it will really turn things around for him. Good Luck.

It is 10.45 and the kids are still running around. They are supposed to be in bed, but really they are having a very hard time ajusting to not being at home. Sydoux has tantrums and Bex just keeps coming out. Hopefully that will even out cuz right now, that really sucks.

Tomorrow we are moving to the house in the country. I'm really looking forward to watching them play outside. The house is on a hill and I'm hoping they are old enough, really Bex, so that we can walk to the top.

Many many more things to come

a Bitter Sweat Win

It is very hot here in Charlotte, and we spend most of our days at the pool. Sydoux has had swim lessons at 11.20 am. So we would leave the house a little before 11., put out towels at the outside pool, head into the inside pool (the 'warm' one, not 'the big' one), watch her do her swim lesson and then head outside.

There is a test that she can pass, and it allows her to swim alone in both the indoor pools, and to use the huge water slide in the outdoor pool.

We talked about the test, we tried to practice for the test, but she would be really stubborn and refuse to even try. Well, that leaves me fuming. Sure some days I forgot to take my 'be nice' pill, but some others, well ... I felt like I tried every thing, and the more I tried the less she wanted to try. Not an ideal situation.

One day, frustrated I tried to let it go (not my strong suit) but that day her swim partner past the test. Then she watched this iddy bitty little girl pass the test. And then ... I started calling her names. Ok so I'm not proud of this, just trying to do my best.
After two hours of name calling, she looks at me one last time and says: Let's go past that test.
I said: I'm not going if you are just going to stand there and refuse to try.
No she said, I'll take it.

Fine, we go over there, but I'm not holding my breath.

Sure enough, she past the test.

I have to admit it was hard for me to be reallllly happy. She said she was sorry for all the grief she had cause me (not her words, but that was the gist).

I don't know. I mean I'm glad she finally got it, but the road was nasty. I don't want to go there again. I've been telling her that she is always going to be a little scared, but that does not mean that she can't try.

I'm glad that it is over.

On other news, shit is still pilling up at Lisa's door. Hard to keep it together when the boat is leaking from many holes. But she IS doing, she IS holding it together. We have her little dog here right now, so nice to have a small dog for a change!! We love Kipper. Go Lisa.

On the other side of the street, Noelle is battling some medical deamons of her own. Sometimes we can feel so powerless in front of the dr. I mean that there is not much that you can say. It is accept or fire and find another one and start all over again. Not really a great way to get healthier.

We were super happy to see Gui stop by on her way back to New York. We have been seeing so much more of her than usual. All these trips down south are working in our favor :)
The kids are missing her already ... come back sooooon.

Other than that we are counting the days to our trip. D -5

Happy 4th!
