Bexism and an update on Nate

A few recent ones:

Cu' me -> excuse me

To Sydoux:
No me talking YOU
No me a'king You

As per Nate's update, this is what Lisa wrote:

Lisa Morehouse Saab Finally!, some good news on Nate! They were able to lower his PEEP (which I think is the pressure they have to put into his lungs) from 10 to 5 today. They are also weaning him off the sedation, and he was really responsive today. He could nod, squeeze hands, move his feet on command, etc. Still on the respirator, but good news!

We are keeping Lisa and her family in our thoughts. I can't begin to imagine the toll that it is taking on her and her sons.

As a result, I have had no stress lately over my coming up trip!!! Between Lisa and Noelle (who was not feeling so good today) I am feeling so sick with worry that I have had no time to feel anything but positive thoughts going their way.

The kids have also been running me ragged, but in a good way. They are just too funny to watch these days. They say you will miss the times when they are small, and sure, they are still small, but 3 and 5 is just a fabulous combination for us.

Sydoux is discovering what things costs. I'm wondering if it is time for an allowance. She is doing chores around the house. Maybe.

I'm tired. It's late. More pictures later.

A trip to the In-Laws

We left Charlotte thursday night to spend a few days with Jon's parents in Columbus GA. It is about 1.5 hours south of Atlanta, on the border with Alabama.

We got there late on Thursday, with enough time for the cousins to play!

In the morning, Sydoux has noticed a high pile of presents, and asked to opened them!!

I think I'm just going to write about the highlights, the kids keep interrupting me!

Bex got a great book, some gardening tools and puzzles. Sydoux got several books, a necklace (pearl) and then Bebe (my MIL) took her to Wal-Mart for some Barbie dress shopping. Well miss Princess did not want dresses, and instead they came back with a super cute pink box full of makeup: powder, blush, lipsticks, nail polish etc.

Bebe hit the jackpot. Sydoux was sooooo happy. She kept reapplying all day, and then she would do the makeup for EVERYONE!! Too cute.

We spend a lot of time at the pool. It was awesome. The kids loved it, and it help beat the heat, which can get pretty hot in Columbus.
Sydoux made $35 by swimming the whole pool back and forth. She was sooo good. I really think I will keep her swimming, she is so strong and seems made for the pool.

Jon and his Dad

Bebe and Sydous relaxing in the pool.

On Saturday morning we went for a boat ride. The kids were ok, but they did not think it was all that. I, on the other hand, could have spent the day ... The ride was on Lake Harding and there are so many beautifull houses to look at. Plus with the wind, it makes it cooler than it actually is.

Grandpa, Bebe, Sydoux and Bex after the boat ride.

Sydoux, cool as a cucumber.

Bex as himself

Bebe catching some rays.

Grandpa chillin' with the kiddos.

We also did a birthday cake for Sydoux and Bex, since they had not seen their grandparents since. Bebe, Sydoux and I went to shop for the cake. I think Sydoux looked at every single one before deciding on an ice-cream cake. (I did not have any. I kept up my diet the whole time ... yeah for me!!!)

Cake eating time.

The cake.

Sydoux enjoying an ice-cream that she bought with her money. It was so big she did not actually finished it!!

So overall it was an awesome trip. The kids had a blast. Bex was actually interacting with his aunts and uncles a lot more than last time, it was fun to watch. Sydoux just loved spending time with her Bebe.
Jon and I did not have one fight (we usually do have a couple) and he got to spend time with his brothers.

I don't know, it was just relaxing and nice and fun. Enough exercice, not too much eating, a lot of great company. We were so psyched that we kinda planned to go back for Labor Weekend.

quick update

I'm still very worried for Lisa and her family. Her husband is going better but he is not out of the woods yet. I got to spend some time at the hospital, and let me tell you, it is nothing like patients on TV. There is no acting. It is raw. 'nuf said.

I'm so proud of the kids who both past their swim test this morning. Sydoux was sooo happy, she loves it and I knew she would pass easy peasy. Bex on the other hand, well, let's just say he surprised me!!!

We are getting ready to spend some time with the InLaws so more to come later.

Hospital Woes

Please take a moment to think of Lisa and her family. Nate is in the hospital with respiratory failure. There is some progress but he is still in critical condition.

Noelle is also in the hospital with kidneys stones. Hopefully she will be home later today or tomorrow morning.

Life can take a sharp turn with no notice.

Hug your kids and enjoy your day.

Book Review: A Dangerous Climate by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

A Dangerous Climate by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro

Off the bat, I give it five stars.

All about it was good. It was not the first one in the series and as soon as I find my library card, I'm going to go get the first one.

I have several more book reviews in my head ... I read a lot!!!

Swim Class

Today was the kids first swim class. Sydoux was totally psyched, Bex ... ah not so much. He did ok though. I think he was scared at first, but the coach is really good with him. I quickly noticed that he does better when I'm not around :D
Sydoux did great. She is learning new things like swimming on her side. I am hoping that she will be able to pass her swim test at the end of the summer.

This morning early I got my blood drawn, so I can go over the results next week to see how this hyperglicimia. I don't really understand why I need to fast, since my blood sugar seems to drop after eating white bread, sugary stuff. We will see.

Other than that a rather lazy day.

Tomorrow more pool, and Saturday we are getting Gutter Helmet which is like guttergard but better.

I love my Husband, he is the best

Yes he is. I know I've said that before, but I'll keep on saying it.

Today's reason for him being so awesome:

Yesterday he went to the Fresh Market and bought $100 worth of Vegan stuff. I'd shown him the vegan cookbooks, he wrote down some recipes and bought the ingredients to make them.

So for dinner we were treated to a Mushroom Risotto, totally vegan with brown rice. The kids loved it (somewhat ... they liked the rice, not so much the radiccio)

He also got a whole bunch of wholesome things I can whip up quickly.

So I love him, not only because he does not belittle my diet, but he he wholly supports it.

On a side funny note (Please Mom don't take this the wrong way, but it was rather funny for me)
I've been telling Mom about my new diet in hopes to get things right once we get to France. In about two minutes, I was informed that some parts of the chicken are ok, some ham is not that bad and that we will be eating Duck. So much for vegan!!!!

On other weekend news, Saturday at lunch we went to Taste of Charlotte and had a good time. The kids played and tasted a few things: spring rolls, ice creams, dipping dots, and one I might buy breakfast bagels with cream filling. The food was hit or miss. Jon said some of the pork was really dry, but others were good.
I stuck to a vegan soup that was awesome. Very fresh, and spicy with some ginger.

Some pictures:

The kids: 5 of them!

Bex and Logan playing in the fountain.

Enjoying ice cream (or as Bex says: i cream)

Jon and Bex

Sydoux and her 'little sister' Reagan

Hummm what's that???

Sydoux in charge of following Reagan.

Sunday we loaded our King size mattress that we don't like so much for a trade with Noelle. In the end, hers is not hard enough for Jon, and I reallllly like my new one, so she is going to sell hers, and we'll buy Jon a new one. Oufff. Mattress Story over!
We did see her new cat Mouse who is adorable!!! Having kittens or puppies is the best.

Then we went to Tyler's AWESOOOOOME birthday party. He turned 5 and was a very happy 5 year old. His party theme was 'Shine' from the wub girl. Yes, we know, not the most boyish thing, but I think his Mom was the Best at making him feel happy and not going on and on and on about the possible stereotype. Kids are just too little for that.
Anyways it was a blast. Bex loved the sand box and Sydoux played a lot in his new tree house.
Jon even came with us, though he did not stay the whole time. He has a little work to do with his social skills.

After the party, Bex was sooo tired he slept for an hour on my chest!!!! Sydoux went out to play. She can just play for ever.

Relaxed evening and there you have it, our weekend.

Today Monday we went to the pool. Love that pool, is is more like a waterpark. Sydoux spent most of her time playing with her friends and jumping in the 'deeper' end.
Bex still is not so confident to go out on his own. Hopefully he will soon!

Day with the kids

well ... kinda!!! We stayed home in the morning, just cleaning and goofing around.

I've decided not to use the drier (or what passes for a drier here, because it is more of steamer than a drier) and to just totally hang dry. Hopefully there will be enough ventilation. Last time we did that, it stank something fierce. Since we have a dehumidifier.

For lunch, we went to chick-fil-a and no ... I did not eat anything there. Jon was so kind to meet me there so I could go to Super Target ALONE. ahhhh. To wonder around aimlessly (kinda) with no kids. It was fab.
What was not so fab, was me trying on foundation makeup, ten shakes too white, with no mirror and trying to get it off with no wipes. Anyways. You know how much makeup I wear. I better just to to Sephora and get some help.

Then I dashed home to eat a peanut butter on wheat toast sandwich. Rounded up all the library books and took the kids to the library.
It was amazing. Not the library. What was amazing was:
both the kids were playing on the computers, both using a program for the first time and what was amazing, was that Bex figured it out better and faster than Sydoux did. I was ... shocked.
We rounded up new books, which really in her category is getting harder, some videos (they zooomed on Peep (Thanks Lisa)), some audia books.

Note on the audio books.
Last time I had checked out 'Shiloh' and the first few minutes where in a very southern accent describing a lunch scene of rabbit that had been shoot ... not in the head so Son, you can eat it.
I turned it off as fast as I could.

This time I got 'Chalotte Web' and it goes: (in a very heavy southern accent) Ma' where is Pa' going? To the barn. Why does Pa' have an ax? Well we just got a new litter of pigs
I turned it off as fast as I could

Damn hard to find audio books these days.

After that I took them to kids time, a drop off day care. I got some pink paint for Sydoux' doll house, then headed to Barnes and Nobles to get some books on Vegan diet.
More latter on those books once I start cooking.

For dinner we had vegan pizza (almost, mine had some goat cheese (I don't want to throw it out))

Then we all went to the mall *** pouring rain *** to get Jon some running shoes and shorts. Got Bex some adorable Converse (pictures tomorrow), some grow in water animals, a new video game since the kids and I finished The Princess Game.

Now they are in bed and we are 'previewing' Bolt

whaaa my cholesterol

Six months ago, an appointment was made for me to see a nutritionist. I was rather surprised since I think of us eating healthy. I went. The nutritionist told me my cholesterol was high!!! I could not have been more shocked. I used to be sooooo low.

During that first month after, I was checking all the labels and being very careful. Months later though I was totally forgotten about it, to be very honest.

Fast forward to today, when I had my follow up appointment. I took the kids again, they love playing with the fake food there. The food looks so real it is spoooooky.
Anyways, there I am smiling, looking forward to my lower numbers.
Well, low and behold, the numbers are higher!!! My cholesterol went up, my good cholesterol went down, bad one went up. The only good number was my sugar cholesterol which went down.

I was rather shuck up. Dang dang dang.

So while I was there, I committed to a diet without dairy and without animal products. I mean I know I am super sensitive about food (and other things!!) so I know I have to really stick to the right stuff in order to get back in the good numbers.

I've been a vegetarian for ten years previously, so really it is not that big a deal ... but still it is irritating.

Also I have this really annoying thing going on with my blood sugar dropping at weird times. Going to get that checked out in two weeks.

Then we had a great playdate with C. The girls played and played, I find it just too cute to watch. C. and I talk about the kids, the neighborhood, school and tons of things women talk about!

Then we met Lisa and Cathy at Monkey Joe's. Bex was REALLLLY looking forward to that, though he had been a troll all morning. He can be sooo madening:
Bex get dressed -> NO
Bex eat breakfast -> No
go play -> NO
go in the truck -> NO you get the idea!!!

The kids ran around like crazy at Monkey Joe's and we chatted. So now we have a third musketeer in our quest to loose pounds. Also, we agreed on weighing ourselves on our Wii Fit so it would be parial .... hihihhi ... and I guess no cheating!!!

Breakfast: two slices of whole weat with soy butter
Lunch: peanut butter on whole weat
Dinner: vegan bean buritto
Snack: blueberries

Tomorrow we wanted to go to the beach, but it looks like it is going to storm.

Money vs. Friendship

This morning, as I was driving to the pool, I was thinking about money and friendship. It is no surprise to anyone that the economy is tanking around here. People are losing their jobs every day, others are looking for a second jobs or any odd job.

The things that friends are used to doing together for months or years might not be the same. When it was once easy to do lunch out with the kids, now some would rather save the money, or rather don't have the money for extras. More shop at Goodwill than at the mall. Vacations are taking at home, with a trip to the playground and a waterhole in the backyard.

If you are used to a routine with your friends, but you can no longer participate, do you stay friends? Do you go out and look for friends with the same lifestyle? Is it a sign of a good friend, one that stays through hardships?

I can imagine if it goes the other way around, and your friends all of a sudden start making oodles of money. All you hear about is their fabulous caribbean vacations, the new cloths, the expensive restaurants etc. Would you still want to socialize? Would you look for friends who have a more similar lifestyle?

I'd like to think that I would stay with my friends no matter what their financial status is. I believe that all things even out, that every one will have a taste of hardship, as well as a period of prosperity. I think I can be supportive of someone going through a tough time. I like to think of myself as a helper. Could I be as supportive of someone who is vastly more affluent then me? That I'm not so sure of. I can imagine being jealous and it getting in the way. I guess I know what I need to work on.

This is to hoping the economy turns around.

On a lighter note, we had an awesome play date yesterday with Noelle and Owen at our house, then went to the pool and had a blast. Bex was glued to me for a good 50% of the time, but he eventually got in and had fun.

Today, pool again with most of the gang, and then Lisa came back to the house. The kids played, but I think we had more fun playing RockBand. I'm ready to start a band!!!!

Oh and we have a friendly wager about weight loss. Hopefully I'll be able to blog about some progress ... and keep me accountable ... so KEEP that donut/cookie/pie/cake for yourself you hear????
